The First Phase of Your Menstrual Cycle

Your menstrual cycle can be broken down into the four seasons, winter, spring, summer and autumn and over the next few days, I am going to talk about each season and the insights you can gain from understanding where in your cycle you are and where you are moving too next. For ease of purpose, I am going to talk about a 28-day cycle, I am aware that yours may be shorter or longer, but this information can be adapted to fit. ⠀

WINTER⠀

We begin and start our cycle during the winter season, and it begins around day 27 and finishes around day 5. In the middle you will start to bleed – your period will start – and that first day of bleeding is day 1 of your cycle and it also when your hormone levels are at their lowest all month. ⠀

You can feel tired, teary, emotionally vulnerable and a need to rest. All of these are completely normal, take it easy, listen to your body and give it what it wants. ⠀

Winter is the chance for analysis and reflection, looking at the bigger picture. Where are you in your life? Are you where you want to be? Are you moving in the right direction? This is a great time for journaling (more on that another time) and getting what’s going on in your head onto paper and possibly getting some answers to some big life questions. You may also just want to curl up on the sofa with a hot water bottle and a box set. Whichever it is, honour it and don’t feel guilty! Spring is on its way and slowly you’ll start to get your groove back. Click here to read about Spring
